Wines This Week
Movie and TV Edition
Thought I'd mix it up this week

2018 Colterenzio: Pinot Grigio Venezie "Lumo"
Just like Olivia Benson in Law and Order: SVU- Pinot Grigio was rockin in the late 90's/early 2000's. It's a lot of people's reliable tried and true wine of choice. I'm usually trying to get people to step outside their comfort zones and try different wines but you know what? You deserve this. The Lumo from Colterenzio is refreshing, rich and medium bodied. Get it cold and drink the whole thing! dun dunnnn

2017 True Myth: Chardonnay
Bridget Jones, responsible for the term "chardonnay girl", would drink this mystical chardonnay from Edna Valley, CA. This winery's motto is to "invite intrigue and embrace a life less ordinary." I think that could be a line right out of Bridget's diary. The True Myth chard is loaded with aromas of citrus and tropical fruit. Ripe and balanced with apple, pear and pineapple notes. Cheers, love! (said with British accent)

2016 Sans Liege: Groundwork Granche Blanc
If you haven't seen this movie: it's cute and funny and great to drink along with. The cast is made of the funniest women in comedy. This Grenache blanc is lemon pez, grapefruit topo chico, wet stone and peach. Drink this while you and your friends are standing around your kitchen snacking and making plans for dinner.

2018 Louis Métaireau: Muscadet de Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie Petit Mouton
Well I couldn't find any muscadet from Idaho (haha) like the one Miss Piggy and Kermit order but I did find this classic cutie for when you are shucking oysters or doing a seafood night of any sort. Tart lemon and lime with mineral and saline finish- wacka wacka!

2019 Le Capitaine: Vouvray Brut
Casa Blanca vibes without being champagne. This bubbly can also make for a great French 75 cocktail which this movie popularized in its time.
100% Chenin Blanc. Made in the ‘methode traditionelle’, it has a lovely golden color with fine bubbles. Rich aromas of honey, peach, pear, orange blossom and freshly baked bread. Flavors of fresh lemon and apple, orange marmalade and fresh bread. Minerality and acidity combine to
yield a pleasant saltiness. Elegant. Stunning for a wine of honor.

2019 Pop Up Chardonnay
Ok ok this is a repeat but I want it again. In The Great Gatsby they're drinking champagne like its water and none of us have the budget for that so the Pop-up will quench our thirst all the same. Oppulence and indulgence can be yours! This is a fantastic sparkling wine with fresh, creamy and lightly frothy texture and a delicious, dry finish. Refreshing and fun with attractive fruit.

2018 Lockhart: Pinot Noir
The movie Sideways put Pinot Noir on the pop culture map, and here to honor that is this great wine from Nappa. Lockhart Pinot Noir is expertly simple, great with food, and over delivers in value.

2019 Jean-Marc Burgaud: Beaujolais Villages, Vignes de Lantignié
I'm pretty sure there is actual Game of Thrones wine out there but this is the wine I imagine flowing into his cup in many scenes. This beaujolais is 100% gamay making it easy to drink a lot of (like he does). Wine maker, Jean-Marc Burgaud, makes his wine in a very saturated region and continuously lands above his mark, which, in a way, could also be Tyrion-like. Either way- this is a fantastic wine and really pleases many drinkers.

2016 Château La Vallée Montagne Saint Émilion
So it isn't a '47 Chaval Blanc like in the movie- but its the delicious distant cousin from the same village that we can afford. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Aromas of undergrowth, leather, and baked strawberry. Flavors of blackcurrant, blackberry, roasted coffee, and spices. Velvety, lush, and mellow. Full-bodied, supple, and generous with good aging.

2019 Alki: Cabernet Sauvignon
Cougar Town was one of the shows I crushed during the pandemmy and Courtney Cox's character was kind of a mess but she loved her wine. She always poured her wine in a giant wine glass so for this smoky jammy babe I wanted a big red to match. Hence this Alki Cab Sauv. Pour it all in a fish bowl and go to (cougar) town!

2019 Bindi Sergardi: Chianti Colli Senesi "Al Canapo"
all you need now is some fava beans...

Dolin Sweet Vermouth
Ok hear me out- I am putting a vermouth in this weeks selection because it's in one of my favorite movies- Groundhog's Day.- and it just happens to be groundhogs day this week. It can't hurt to have sweet vermouth on hand and why not try something different? Pour on ice and add a twist like they do at the end of this great film- enjoy!
